Riverland Trust Mark for premium food, wine and tourism

By: Donna Beech

Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland (RDAMR) Inc. in conjunction with Destination Riverland and Riverland Wine, launched the Riverland Trust Mark which is designed to establish a consistent and consumer based identity for premium Riverland products and services.

Launched at the Pike River Retreat on Wednesday the 22 June 2016, the Riverland Trust Mark will enable the region to promote a united identity that profiles the range of premium quality food, wine and tourism experiences in our region.

The Riverland Trust Mark is the outcome of a 9 month project, which commenced in June 2015 with RDAMR’s successful application to the Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) ‘Supporting Brands of our Key Region’s Grants Program’.

In front of more than 60 guests, Paul Henry, founder and brand strategy director of Winehero, spoke of the importance of building stronger regions through the development and support of premium food, wine and tourism industries in the Riverland region. The event culminated with the awarding of twelve local businesses who have shown exceptional commitment to excellence, and who could demonstrate the achievement of the Riverland Trust Mark’s pillars of Quality, Origin and Environment.

RDAMR worked with Paul Henry of Winehero to consult with local businesses and stakeholder groups to determine key issues and develop a solution to enable the region to move forward by changing its perception of quality and to raise the profile of our pristine “clean and green” environment. Quality was identified as being a key driver in developing new markets, marketability and the potential to increase yields for premium products and services in the Riverland region.

"Great brands are all about assurances made and promises kept, said Paul Henry of Winehero. “A regional Trust Mark puts the consumer at the centre of equation and says that these are brands and experiences that you can trust. They inspire because they are unique to the location and community that they come from. Ultimately, the Riverland Trust Mark denotes brands and experiences that are worth traveling for, and can't be found anywhere else."

Collaboration was essential throughout the project with a steering group formed, consisting of representatives from Destination Riverland, Riverland Wine, Food Riverland and the Renmark Paringa Council.

RDAMR Chief Executive, Jo Podoliak said “the aim of the project was to develop an identity for the Riverland region that was synonymous with premium quality food, wine and tourism. We have a number of local businesses who are committed to delivering high quality food, beverage and tourism experiences and this project enables us to clearly define them and provide a collaborated approach to marketing to achieve higher returns”.

The launch of the Riverland Trust Mark also includes a website: www.riverlandtrustmark.com.au, where people can find out more about the 12 local businesses who were awarded foundation members of the program in its first year. These foundation members will be key to promoting and demonstrating the program’s values and identity to the wider community as they will be entrusted to use the Riverland Trust Mark on their products, services and tourism experiences.

The next stage of the project will involve working with the 12 local businesses who were awarded the Riverland Trust Mark and the Steering Committee to maximise marketing opportunities and program activation.
