Local Employment Program Turning Lives Around

RDAMR's Award Winning Program for those disadvantaged job seekers in the Murraylands Region has seen great success.

An award-winning local employment program is delivering life-changing outcomes for some of the region’s most disadvantaged job seekers.

More than 50 unemployed Murraylands residents completed the Jobs 4 Murraylands program in the past financial year, with nearly two-thirds (64%) converting their training into paid employment.

It comes as the program was awarded the Industry Collaboration Award at last week’s SA Training Awards and announced as the Adult Learning Program of the Year at August’s 2017 Adult Learners’ Week Awards ceremony.

Jobs 4 Murraylands was launched in response to feedback from 10 of the region’s biggest food producers, who said they could expand their businesses by up to 30% if they could recruit a sustainable local workforce.

The program is an initiative of the Murraylands Food Alliance in partnership with Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland (RDAMR).

Key elements of the 12-month program include tailored accredited and non-accredited training designed to meet industry needs, mentoring and support to connect participants to job opportunities, and personal development workshops to address confidence, self-esteem and motivation.

“Jobs 4 Murraylands demonstrates our region’s commitment to integrating local job seekers into the business community,” said RDAMR Chief Executive Officer Jo Podoliak.

“We know what it takes to engage job seekers and we know the types of skills that potential employers are looking for. Jobs 4 Murraylands is about bringing the two together.

“Over the course of several months, the program has equipped job seekers with qualifications and training such as white cards or forklift licences. It has also helped prepare them with the physical fitness and mental motivation needed for work in the food, wine and agricultural industry.

“It also helps local industry to thrive by filling job vacancies which were stopping businesses from reaching projected growth and meeting future demand.

“The Jobs 4 Murraylands program is a real win-win.”

Jobs 4 Murraylands is a State Government sponsored Jobs First Employment Program.
